^Lot 5152 SCARCE 1860 DATED SPRINGFIELD ARMORY MODEL 1855

RIFLE MUSKET. Cal. 58. NSN. 40" barrel. Standard production Model 1855 rifle musket, "VP/ eagle head" proofs, "1860" dated breech and 3-position 2-leaf rear sight. Lockplate stamped "U.S. / Springfield" forward of hammer, "1860" rear of hammer, & eagle stamp on door of Maynard tape primer. Iron buttplate w/ usual "US" surcharge, iron tool box. CONDITION: very good overall, complete & original, good markings in metal, stock is sound, no cartouches, large chip missing left rear of breech, barrel shows tool marks & cleaning at breech. Mechanics are fine including Maynard tape device. Bore has good rifling. (01-28753/JS). ANTIQUE. $1,200-1,600.
